WISER congratulates Achille Mbembe on winning the Holberg Prize

The staff and students at WISER would like to congratulate our colleague, Achille Mbembe, on the award of the Holberg Prize, the most prestigious international prize in the Humanities and Social Sciences. We are thrilled that his outstanding scholarship and immense contribution to the study of Africa in the world has been recognized at this level and across the global academy today. To us, though, he has shared our corridor at WISER at Wits University, in this fractious, lively and demanding African city, month in and month out for the last twenty years. His brilliance, warmth, collegiality and readiness to talk about and share his ideas with us as with so many beyond has been unforgettable and deeply meaningful to us all.
