Details of transport to Grahamstown from Port Elizabeth will be posted here by 20 March at the latest. We are talking to Shuttle service providers for a possible discount for delegates to the Conference. We encourage our travellers to use the Port Elizabeth airport as it is nearer than the East London one and better serviced by shuttle services than East London airport.
Those who will use road transport will not require any further information than to know that Rhodes University is in the Eastern Cape, in Grahamstown, a town that was recently renamed Makhanda, to honour Makhanda, a leader and victim of the violence of this frontier. Makhanda/Grahamstown is located 120kms from Port Elizabeth, and is nearly 1000kms from Johannesburg. It is the heart of Eastern Cape tourism, with many historical monuments as well as an assortment of game reserves nearby - and of course very good beaches some 58-70kms away.
